Should Georgia Pass Bill That Loosens Gun Restrictions in Bars, Churches, on College Campuses and in School Safety Zones?

HB 512 would allow guns carried by licensed individuals on college campuses, in churches and bars and within school safety zones, and it faces an important deadline Thursday.

In all the gun control news following the Sandy Hook school shootings, a bill in the Georgia Legislature would actually expand potential places where firearms could be taken.

And that measure, House Bill 512, is facing a key deadline today, Thursday, March 7. The bill, also known as the Safe Carry Protection Act, would allow firearms to be taken onto college campuses, which include Barrow County's own satellite campus of Lanier Technical College on Athens Street in Winder, as well as in bars and churches.

Today is "crossover day" in the Georgia Legislature. A bill must pass the House or Senate to be considered by the other body. Otherwise, it is dead for the 2013 legislative session.
