Permit for Master Planned Development Approved by Commissioners

The project includes plans for a mix of commercial, light industrial and residential buildings.

The Athens Banner-Heralds reports Barrow County commissioners have approved a development permit for a a 292-acre master planned development — Barrow Landing — at the corner of Ga. Highway 316 and Ga. Highway 81.

The newspaper reports a Calgary, Alberta-based company wants to build a mix of commercial, light industrial and residential buildings,including 1,300 to 1,900 multifamly and single-family housing units and up to 4.5 million square feet of commercial and light industrial space.

The development would be built in phases would include housing options geared toward senior citizens, the Banner Herald reports.

Commissioners unanimously approved the special-use permit the company needs to move forward, with the condition that the commission will have the option to revoke the permit if the company hasn’t started work in two years.
