Northeast Georgia Regional Commission Holding Public Hearing on Winder Urban Redevelopment Plan Today

The Northeast Georgia Regional Commission, on behalf of the city of Winder, will hold a public hearing today, Monday, Jan. 7, on an urban redevelopment plan, according to a post on the city's website. 

The NGRC will brief residents on the contents of the plan, solicit public comment, designate boundaries of an urban redevelopment area, designate the mayor and council as the local redevelopment agency and adopt the urban redevelopment plan. 

Several neighborhoods within the proposed redevelopment area have been identified as negatively contributing to the economic and social well-being of the city, with the most significant issues being the overwhelming occurrence of vacant, substandard or underutilized structures. According to plan documents, if adopted, the areas of focus include the Glenwood neighborhood, Second Street/Yargo, Candler Street and Old Town, commercial and mixed use development within the city and the downtown area. 

The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Winder Community Center and will precede a Winder City Council work session at 6 p.m.
