New Businesses Coming Soon to Auburn

Auburn's downtown development coordinator told city council members Thursday night that several businesses have expressed an interest in opening downtown.

New businesses will soon be opening their doors in Auburn.

Sherrie Miller, Auburn's downtown development coordinator, reported to the city council at Thursday night's meeting that several businesses have expressed an interest in opening downtown.

In July, she approached Mary and John Durden, who own the building on Fourth Avenue across from the police department, about renting units in their building as mini-shops. The couple agreed, and a notification was placed in the water bill newsletter letting residents know.

"I was just bombarded with calls from people wanting to be a vendor," Miller said.

Eight booths have been rented so far. A Treasury of Shops is set to open Sept. 10.

Two other businesses, a restaurant and a consignment shop, are in talks to open downtown.

"The more commerce we have in downtown, the more people we are going to draw to shop everywhere," Miller said.

Outside of downtown, Davis Express, a trucking company, is moving into the former Great Wide Trucking location on Atlanta Highway.
