Juvenile Curfew Now in Effect in Winder

The Winder City Council approved the ordinance during Tuesday's meeting.

A juvenile curfew is now in effect in the city of Winder. 

Members of the Winder City Council voted to approve an ordinance setting a curfew from midnight to 6 a.m. 

The curfew prohibits those 16 and younger from loitering, wandering, strolling or playing in or upon public places, establishments or vacant property in the city unsupervised between those hours.

The ordinance also prohibits owners, operators and employees of local establishments from knowingly allowing a juvenile to violate the curfew. 

Exceptions will be made for minors traveling to and from school-related events, religious activities and work.

First offenses will result in a warning citation, and subsequent offenses would result in the filing of a juvenile court complaint and a fine for the parent, guardian, business owner, operator or employee.
