Juvenile Curfew Now in Effect in Winder

The Winder City Council approved the ordinance during Tuesday's meeting.

A juvenile curfew is now in effect in the city of Winder.

Members of the Winder City Council voted to approve an ordinance setting a curfew from midnight to 6 a.m.

The curfew prohibits those 16 and younger from loitering, wandering, strolling or playing in or upon public places, establishments or vacant property in the city unsupervised between those hours.

The ordinance also prohibits owners, operators and employees of local establishments from knowingly allowing a juvenile to violate the curfew.

Exceptions will be made for minors traveling to and from school-related events, religious activities and work.

First offenses will result in a warning citation, and subsequent offenses would result in the filing of a juvenile court complaint and a fine for the parent, guardian, business owner, operator or employee.

Do you think the curfew for juveniles is a good idea? Why or why not? Tell us in comments.

If you listen carefully to the news reports on automobile deaths involving young people, MANY of them are in the wee hours of the morning. I personally think this is a great step forward. Barrow County officials, are you listening?

I grew up in a Winder where doors were not locked and the town was full of folks shopping! SometimesRead More a moonshiner would get caught or the parking meter would run out of time and one would get a parking ticket by one of the three cops in town! Now I keep a weapon handy because of voices and footsteps on the pavement at night! Where are these people coming from and going to after one o'clock in the morning? Why does it take so long for a policeman to show up after a call is made,if they show up at all? I've watched nice homes on my street turn into dumps. They are rented by owners who are only interested in the money and not the quality of people who are renting. Yeah, I keep a weapon and it's loaded for a thief or prowler! When seconds count a cop is only several minutes away,if at all!
