Have You Registered to Vote?
The last day to register to vote in the upcoming General Election is Oct. 11.
The city of Auburn wishes to remind everyone that the last day to register to vote in the upcoming municipal General Election and runoff is a little more than two weeks away.
To be eligible to cast your vote at the ballot boxes Nov. 8, 2011, or in the runoff Dec. 6, 2011, you must be registered no later than Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011.
Once again, the city of Auburn website proves to be an excellent resource for its residents. Aspiring and current voters can visit the Election Information page to learn everything from important election dates and deadlines, to where to vote, to how to register. It also contains helpful links to the Georgia Secretary of State website to complete online voter registration, download a copy of the voter registration form, print a copy of an absentee ballot application and visit your “My Voter Page” once registered.

Registering to vote is a snap, and there are several ways to sign up to make your vote count:
- Download and complete a voter registration application online.
- Visit for a mail-in registration form. Keep in mind that if you mail in your form, you will need to provide a copy of an acceptable form of identification, such as your driver’s license or picture ID.
- Contact the Barrow County or Gwinnett County elections office, public library, public assistance office, recruitment office, schools and other government offices for a mail-in registration form. Again, be prepared to provide a copy of an acceptable form of identification with your mail-in form.
- E-mail your request for a voter registration form to the secretary of state or write to the Office of the Secretary of State, Elections Division, Suite 1104 West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Atlanta, GA 30334-1505. Please include your name and mailing address.
- For your convenience, registration is offered when you renew or apply for your driver's license at Department of Motor Vehicle Safety driver’s license posts.
- College students can obtain Georgia voter registration forms, or the necessary forms to register in any state in the U.S., from their school registrar's office or from the office of the vice president of academic affairs.
To be eligible to register to vote in the state of Georgia, you must be:

- A citizen of the United States
- A legal resident of Georgia and of the county in which you wish to vote
- At least 18 years of age by Election Day
You may not register to vote if you are currently:
- Serving any sentence imposed by the conviction of a felony
- Judicially determined to be mentally incompetent
You may register to vote at any time, but you must be registered by the close of registration prior to an election if you wish to vote on Election Day. The city of Auburn’s municipal elections are held every two years in odd numbered years at the Auburn-Barrow Fire Station No. 4, at 1335 Fourth Ave.
If you wish to apply to serve as a poll worker on Election Day at one of Barrow County’s 16 polling locations, please fill out the Barrow County Poll Worker Application and either return by mail to the address on the application or fax to 770-307-1054.
