Economic Development Council Highlights Some of Barrow's Assets

Barrow County has a lot to offer — it’s a certified Camera Ready Community, a certified Work Ready Community and it has a Guaranteed Ready for Accelerated Development site.

“While we are faced with some challenges, there are some very positive things that are happening in our community,” Linda Moore told members of the Barrow County Board of Commissioners.

Moore, who heads up the Barrow Economic Development Council, gave a presentation before commissioners during their meeting April 12.

As a Camera Ready Community, Moore said, Barrow is certified by the Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Office in hopes it will attract film and television production, as the economic development council will act as liaison with any companies interesting in projects within the county.

As a certified Georgia Work Ready Community, Barrow has shown it has a talented workforce business demands and the means to drive economic growth.

The county also boasts a GRAD site, or Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development site. This site is a pre-qualified industrial site ready for development.

Moore said the economic development council’s mission is to market Barrow in order to create jobs. There are currently four companies locating primarily along Bankhead Highway that will bring in 50 to 60 jobs initially, she said.
