Congressman Issues Statement on Georgia's Water Issues

Congressman Rob Woodall issued a statement following a federal appeals court's dismissal of calls from Alabama and Florida to reconsider a recent decision that allowed Lake Lanier to be used for water supply purposes.

A federal appeals court dismissed calls from Alabama and Florida to reconsider a recent decision that allowed Lake Lanier to be used for water supply purposes.

Congressman Rob Woodall issued the following statement on the issue:

“Millions of Georgia residents rely on Lake Lanier for their water needs, and there has never been a doubt in my mind that Buford Dam was created to supply drinking water to Georgia residents. That said, for more than 20 years we have been locked in a battle over the intended use of Lake Lanier. It is high time that we move forward and last week’s federal appeals court ruling will help us to do just that. While the ruling is indeed a win for Georgia residents and businesses, it is imperative that we remain committed to establishing a long term agreement with our neighbors in Florida and Alabama that will ensure Georgia retains an adequate and reliable allocation of water to meet its needs over the next 50 years. I look forward to the continuing negotiations between the Governors, and I remain hopeful we will soon come to a resolution that is fair and takes into account the critical nature of this necessary human resource.”
