Congressman Calls Troop Withdrawal 'Half-hearted'

Congressman Rob Woodall has issued a statement in response to the president's announcement of troop withdrawals in Afghanistan.

Congressman Rob Woodall (R-Lawrenceville) has responded to the president's announcement Wednesday of troop withdrawals in Afghanistan.

In a statement issued Thursday, June 23, Woodall asked, “Where is the President taking America in Afghanistan? If America’s work is finished there, let’s declare victory and bring everyone home. If our work is not finished in Afghanistan, then let’s define our goal, fund that mission, and see it through to conclusion.”

Woodall had additional questions for the president.

“Tell me, Mr. President: How does this partial withdrawal make the American homeland safer? How does it give those troops remaining in Afghanistan more security? We have sacrificed American lives and treasure on the battlefield of Afghanistan, and I have great pride in the work that America’s men and women in uniform have done there.

“If we’re finished, Mr. President,” Woodall’s statement continued, “then bring our sons and daughters home. If there is still work to do, Mr. President, define that work for us and let us commit to supporting our troops bringing about that success.

"I need those answers from President Obama," Woodall continues, "for I fear that this half-hearted withdrawal is taking America down the familiar path of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. May God bless our troops.”
