City Spotlight on Carl: Candidate Hopes to Continue Proud Family Tradition at City Hall

Derrick Jones hopes to follow in the footsteps of his father and brother in seeking election to the Carl Town Council.

Following the recent qualifying period for Carl Town Council, one council member will run unopposed for her seat, while another will seek to make way for a new face at .

Rebecca Knight will run for a second term in 2012, but Truman Phillips, who has held his seat since taking over for former council member Frieda Knight in February 2007, has made the decision not to seek re-election. Seeking to assume his place at the council table early next year is local farmer and business owner Derrick Jones.

In keeping with a proud and longstanding tradition of service to the community, Jones, a lifelong resident of Carl, is hoping to follow in his family’s footsteps. His father served on the Carl Town Council for more than 20 years, and his brother, Jason Jones, served one term as a council member.

According to Town Clerk Deana Davis,The Jones family is a wonderful example of the good honest people in the town of Carl.”

Jones, who owns a farm and vending business in Carl, is running unopposed for the seat Phillips is leaving and, if elected, will officially claim his seat at Carl City Hall during the regular town council meeting scheduled for Jan. 19, 2012.
