Chairman of Barrow Board of Commissioners May Seek Re-election
Despite significant changes in the position of commission chairman, Danny Yearwood may seek re-election, according to a story by the Barrow Journal.
The reports Danny Yearwood, chairman of the Barrow County Board of Commissioners, may seek re-election in 2012, despite changes in the position.
The chairman, who currently manages the county government, will shift to a part-time position with a reduction in pay as a county manager begins overseeing day-to-day county government operations. The chair will have full voting powers alongside commissioners but will not retain a veto.
The changeover will take place in January 2013.

Qualifying fees set

The Athens Banner-Herald reports Barrow County commissioners approved qualifying fees for candidates seeking elected office this year during a recent meeting.
Candidates can qualify to run for officer between 9 a.m. May 23 and noon May 25. Fees are set based on the salary assigned to each elected office.
Commissioners reduced the qualifying fee for candidates for commission chairman from $1,590 to $750.
Additional qualifying fees are as follows:
- Probate Court judge — $1,894.94
- Clerk of Superior Court — $1,894.94
- Chief magistrate — $1,894.94
- Sheriff — $2,270.50
- Tax commissioner — $1,894.94
- Coroner — $35
- County commissioner — $180
- Board of education members — $18
