Auburn Swears in Parks and Leisure Director

Winners in the Springfest Egg Coloring Contest were announced.

  1. The council unanimously voted to appoint Gary Schussler as Auburn’s new Parks and Leisure Director. The position was vacated in March by Tommy Duncan. Schussler was sworn in by Mayor Blechinger. He thanked the mayor and council for the opportunity and said he is looking forward to working with the city.
  2. The winners of the Springfest Egg Coloring Contest were announced. The winners were chosen by employees of , owned by Gus Lolakis. Nicholas TaTom, 4, won the 4- to 6-year-old prize. Tauheed Ferguson Jr., 7, won for the 7- to 8-year-old group. Jessie Maddox, 10, won in the 9- to 10-year-old division.
  3. The council voted to hire Ackerman & Co. as a consulting company to assist with economic development and acquiring property to bring new businesses and jobs to the city. The agreement is for a fee of $75 an hour, not to exceed $3,000 a year.
  4. The council voted to approve a contract that will allow the Auburn Senior Group the O.W.L.S. to use the Auburn-Carl Lions Club building for their meetings. The group, which has 50 members, has outgrown the J.D. Withers building, where they currently meet. 

The Auburn City Council will meet for their next workshop meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19.
