Auburn Mayor Receives National Award

Mayor Linda Blechinger was presented an award by the Women in Municipal Government, a constituency group of the National League of Cities.

The award was announced Nov. 11 at the WIMG Leadership Award Luncheon during the National League of Cities' Congress of Cities and Exposition in Phoenix, Ariz.

The president of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce released the following statement congratulating Blechinger on the award:

On behalf of the Gwinnett Chamber and its Board of Directors, it is my privilege to congratulate Mayor Linda Blechinger on being nationally recognized this past week, having received the 2011 Annual Leadership Award from the Women in Municipal Government (WIMG) - a constitutency group of the National League of Cities (NLC).

The WIMG Leadership Award recognizes a female local official for unique and outstanding leadership in local government and individual achievement in initiating creative and successful programs in local government to help citizens, particularly if the leadership serves as a specific mentoring model for future female leaders. Blechinger was honored for her outstanding achievements as a local elected official and for her support of women at the local government level during NLC's WIMG Leadership Award Luncheon at the Congress of Cities and Exposition in Phoenix, Ariz.

As a board member of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, Blechinger represents the Gwinnett Municipal Association, a vital and key component of the Chamber's successful collaborative environment comprising business, government, community and education. We are very proud to have such exemplary leadership honored at a national level and congratulate Mayor Blechinger on this tremendous achievement. Thank you for all you do for our community.
