Army Veteran Stephen Simpson Announces Bid for 10th Congressional District Seat

The Milledgeville resident announced Wednesday plans to seek the seat being vacated by Paul Broun.

Stephen Simpson, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, has announced plans to run for Georgia’s 10th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014, the Athens Banner-Herald reports

Republican Paul Broun, who currently holds the seat, plans to run for Senate, as Sen. Saxby Chambliss announced in January he would not seek a third term. 

Simpson announced his candidacy, the Banner-Herald reports, Wednesday, June 19, at the Oconee Veterans Park. Click here to read the full report.

Other Republicans who have announced plans to seek the 10th Congressional District post include Jody Hice, a minister and conservative talk show host, State Rep. Donna Sheldon of Dacula, Mike Collins, a businessman and son of a former congressman, and party activist Brian Slowinski

The 10th Congressional District includes Barrow County, as well as the southern portion of Clarke County, Oconee and Walton, and part of Gwinnett, among other counties in Georgia
