While Agriculture Commissioner Defends 'LFTB' Barrow Residents Can Buy Slime-free Beef Locally

Gary Black says the "lean finely textured beef" is a "safe, widely-used product". Are you buying it?

LFTB is the acronym for what some are still calling "pink slime". 

A WSBTV news story quotes Georgia's Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black as saying "lean finely textured beef" is a "safe, widely-used product". 

A Channel 2 news correspondent was in attendance at a news conference Wednesday, where Black and his head meat inspector addressed public concern over the product.

WSBTV reports the list of store chains that have announced they will no longer sell beef that includes the ammonia-treated filler is growing.

But Barrow residents who are concerned about the possibility of consuming pink slime, or LFTB, in ground beef from local supermarkets can avoid the substance — a local farm sells ground beef that is slime free.
