Woman: It's Your Pavement, You Can Take It With You

Winder woman refuses to allow paving contractor to make extreme adjustment to original price quote.

A woman stood her ground after a contractor reportedly attempted to more than triple the original price estimate for a paving job during an Oct. 24 incident at a Winder home.

According to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office incident report, the paving company had completed roughly half the job when one of the employees informed the woman the price would have to be increased from $2,400 to $8,000 in order to complete the job. The woman refused to agree to the price change and informed the employee she intended to contact law enforcement.

Before leaving, the employee told the woman he was going to rip up the pavement he had poured and take it back with him.

"[The Winder woman] stated the employee was told that it was his pavement and if he wanted it he could take it," the deputy noted in the report.

The woman said she was concerned the employee might return to her residence at some point and was advised to contact authorities if anyone from the paving company returned to her residence. The price dispute, the deputy explained, is a civil matter to be handled between the woman, the paving company and the courts if necessary.
