Woman Goes to Fetch Gun After Reading Crime Alert, Discovers Weapon Has Been Stolen

The woman had left the gun in her vehicle.

A Winder woman concerned about the possibility of crime in her neighborhood learned she had already been the victim of theft when she went to retrieve a gun out of her vehicle on Oct. 11.

According to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office incident report, the Winder woman read a post on Facebook about burglaries in her neighborhood and decided she would get her gun out of her car. When she opened the glove compartment in her car, she realized the gun was not there.

The woman said the last time she saw the gun was on Oct. 5 when she left a gun range in Athens.

At the time the theft was discovered, the car door was unlocked.

The gun -- a black 9mm Kel-Tec -- has an estimated value of $650. The woman was unable to provide the deputy with the serial number of the weapon.
