Woman Attempts to Hide from Police in Crawl Space

A canine unit assisted in apprehending the suspect inside the Title Exchange and Pawn in Winder.

A woman suspected of attempting to rob a Winder business was found hiding in a crawl space. 

About midnight Tuesday, May 15, officers with the were dispatched to the  in reference to an alarm. 

Upon arrival, an officer observed a figure behind the front counter of the office before a canvas of the business began.

When the business manager arrived, several deputies assisted Winder police in setting up a perimeter around the building. 

The manager unlocked the door and allowed law enforcement to search the business. After clearing the entire building, police noticed a floor vent had been pushed up and the vent filter had been pulled down toward the crawl space.

Once officers cleared the attic in the building, the manager accessed the security video recording system, which showed a white female going through the counter drawers and walking out of the front door.

About five minutes later, the surveillance system showed the same white female walking back in the front door and attempting to hide after she saw police pulling into the parking area. 

While officers were viewing the surveillance video, two Gwinnett County Police canine units arrived. 

Upon placing a canine on the ground and into the crawl space, the dog was able to locate and apprehend the same white female observed in the surveillance video burglarizing the business.

Once the female was removed from the crawl space, she was secured in handcuffs and checked by EMS for any injuries obtained from the apprehension canine.

The woman, 40-year-old Tanya Lee Fisher of 405 Cedar Valley Trail E. in Winder, was charged with three counts of burglary, criminal damage to property in the second degree, theft by taking and theft by taking motor vehicle.
