Winder Resident was Drinking Wine Out of Subway Cup Inside Walmart Before Being Arrested

The man was arrested Saturday, July 7, outside the store.

A Winder man was arrested July 7 at the local  store and charged with public drunkenness and open container.

A deputy with the  was dispatched to the store about 4 p.m. in reference to a report of an intoxicated person inside. When the deputy arrived, the suspect was seated on a metal bench in the shoe section.

According to an incident report, the suspect told the deputy he had drank two 24-ounce beers. He was in possession of a 32-ounce Subway drink cup partially full of a clear, alcoholic beverage the man identified as wine. The man told the deputy he had walked from King Street to Walmart and the trip had taken him about two hours.

The suspect was then escorted to the front of the store, a slow process, the deputy wrote, as the man was "wobbly and swayed from side to side as he walked constantly correcting his direction of travel as he drifted from right to left." Arriving at the deputy's patrol car, the suspect, Paul Lewis Stone, 58, of 80 King St. in Winder, was placed under arrest and charged with public drunkenness and open container.
