Winder Man Arrested after Father Shows Deputies Marijuana Plant

The father told deputies he had spoken with his son about the plant and told him to get it off the property but the son had refused.

A Winder resident was arrested recently after his father showed local law enforcement what he suspected was a marijuana plant.

A deputy with the  was dispatched to the Scott Drive residence June 9 in response to a domestic dispute, where the complainant said his son had come home drunk ranting about police stopping him in Auburn. The man said his son has been cursing since he came into the house and had been calling and harassing staff at the . When he told his son to go to bed, the son refused.

Since the father and son had only been involved in a verbal dispute, deputies determined an arrest was not warranted.

That determination changed after the father asked to show the deputy something. After walking to the backyard, the resident pulled back some limbs on a large green, bush and showed the deputy a plant growing there.

The father said he had spoken with his son about the plant and told him to get it off the property but the son refused to move it.

When a deputy spoke with the son, he said he was tired of police pulling him over and being harassed by law enforcement. The deputy, who had stopped the man over previously at the request of an Auburn officer, informed him that he was causing the contact. The man had been given a verbal warning for public intoxication and disorderly conduct after reportedly cursing at customers in an Auburn gas station parking lot.

Once the plant was confirmed to be marijuana, 31-year-old Todd Ashley Wages of 161 Scott Drive in Winder was placed under arrest and charged with cultivation of marijuana and possession of marijuana.

The marijuana plant was removed from a one-gallon, plastic landscape pot and seized as evidence.

Dad needs to kick 31yr. old out and change his locks. Parents sometimes create these problems by feeling sorry for their kids when they should be telling them that they are grown, go out and be a man.
He's lucky he got the verbal warnings that he did from Police. Now that they know him and know that he's insubordinate, he has made a name for himself and won't get any more chances and, hopefully, the public won't have to deal with him for a while. Here it goes again....stupid is as stupid does....

I'm more concerned with the public drunkenness and harassment of public officials than the kid's gardening activities. Alcohol is a much more dangerous drug than marijuana.

Kevin- I'm kind of thinking that it had as much to do with the fact that they had given him a warning and then the domestic issue with the dad drove it over the edge. Regardless of how you feel about comparisons between pot and alcohol (both impair judgement), one is legal and the other isn't.
I did wonder though, how he got home drunk? Hope he walked. lol Still think Dad should change his locks and tell "kid" to figure life out on his own.

"both impair judgement"? I have seen the most deplorable behavior from drunks. I have yet to see someone do anything violent just from smoking weed. That is not to say that marijuana users don't do stupid things, but the chances of that are much less than with alcohol. "Dad should change his locks and tell "kid" to figure life out on his own". I agree completely !! This kid is a wreck and needs to grow up in a hurry or risk becoming a failure !!

I grew up in a Winder where doors were not locked and the town was full of folks shopping! SometimesRead More a moonshiner would get caught or the parking meter would run out of time and one would get a parking ticket by one of the three cops in town! Now I keep a weapon handy because of voices and footsteps on the pavement at night! Where are these people coming from and going to after one o'clock in the morning? Why does it take so long for a policeman to show up after a call is made,if they show up at all? I've watched nice homes on my street turn into dumps. They are rented by owners who are only interested in the money and not the quality of people who are renting. Yeah, I keep a weapon and it's loaded for a thief or prowler! When seconds count a cop is only several minutes away,if at all!
