Winder Police Say Woman Drove to Hospital Intoxicated

An officer with the Winder Police Department responded to Barrow Regional Medical Center about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 13 after staff reported a highly intoxicated female had driven to the hospital intoxicated — for no apparent reason. 

The officer made contact with the female in the hospital parking lot to find out if the suspect was under the influence. The suspect told the officer she had lost her car keys in the waiting area. When the officer stepped inside to confirm with staff that he was speaking with the right person, the suspect got into her vehicle and proceeded to drive south on North Broad Street. The officer followed and, according to an incident report, observed the driver fail to maintain lane before initiating a traffic stop. 

When the officer asked the suspect how much alcohol she had consumed, she said two drinks four hours prior and that she was perfectly fine to drive. After performing several field sobriety evaluations, the officer placed the suspect under arrest. A red cup with a black straw contained what smelled like an alcoholic beverage was found in the vehicle.

Robbie Sue Faulkner, 47, of 1720 Brockton Road in Jefferson was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, littering from a motor vehicle and possession of an open alcohol container. A breath test administered at the Barrow County Detention Center registered a blood alcohol content of .173 percent.
