Winder Police to Host Town Hall Meeting for Zone 2 on Thursday

A meeting for Zone 3 will be held at a later date.

The second in a series of town hall meetings hosted by the will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday. 

Open to the public, residents within Winder's Zone 2 — this zone is designated by the police department as any property located on the east side of Broad Street and north of the railroad tracks in Winder — are invited to learn more about recent activity within this patrol zones.

The meeting will be held at at 123 E. New St. and will begin with a presentation by the police department that will highlight recent crimes in the area. The most recent crime statistics for Zone 2 will be discussed. The presentation will be followed by an open floor discussion during which residents can ask questions or make suggestions.

A meeting for Zone 3 will be held at a later date. Zone 3 includes property north of the railroad tracks and west of Broad Street. The time, date and location for the Zone 3 meeting will be announced once the information has been finalized.

I grew up in a Winder where doors were not locked and the town was full of folks shopping! SometimesRead More a moonshiner would get caught or the parking meter would run out of time and one would get a parking ticket by one of the three cops in town! Now I keep a weapon handy because of voices and footsteps on the pavement at night! Where are these people coming from and going to after one o'clock in the morning? Why does it take so long for a policeman to show up after a call is made,if they show up at all? I've watched nice homes on my street turn into dumps. They are rented by owners who are only interested in the money and not the quality of people who are renting. Yeah, I keep a weapon and it's loaded for a thief or prowler! When seconds count a cop is only several minutes away,if at all!
