Winder Police Charge Suspects With Armed Robbery

The Athens Banner-Herald reports one of the suspects recently surrendered but authorities are still searching for the second man.

Two suspects are facing charges in connections with a May 3 armed robbery outside a Winder convenience store.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports Darren Michael Lamiotte, 20, and Kartez Jamal Fowler, 24, both of Athens, reportedly confronted two men leaving the Phillips 66 service station on North Broad Street and demanded money at gunpoint. The duo stole off with $1,500 and a cellphone, the report says.

The Winder Police Department publicly released Lamiotte’s identity and photograph May 9, and he surrendered that night. Authorities are still searching for Fowler.

Both suspects are facing charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault.

Chris Cooper, public information officer for the Winder Police Department, told the ABH the robbery appeared to be part of a trend in which criminals are targeting Hispanic men who are likely to be carrying a lot of cash.
