Winder Police Investigate Reports of Theft, Make Several Arrests from Traffic Stops

Several individuals were arrested and charged with driving without a license from Sept. 11 through 16.

Tuesday, Sept. 11

An officer was dispatched to a Graham Street location about 8 p.m. in reference to a dispute and spoke with the complainant, who appeared to be intoxicated and was bleeding from an open sore on her left arm. The complainant was only able to tell the officer, “They were picking on me.” The second party to the dispute said the complainant was blocking her from entering the residence when she pushed the complainant’s hand away and she started to bleed. The complainant, Darenda Gay Johnson, 47, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

Wednesday, Sept. 12

An expired tag resulted in a traffic stop and the subsequent arrest of 44-year-old Jimmy Nathaniel Ballenger of 438 Roosevelt Blvd. in Commerce, who was charged with driving with an expired tag and driving while license suspended or revoked.

Terrance Lavon Odom, 37, of 1180 Court Drive in Duluth was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license.

Thursday, Sept. 13

About 6:30 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Capitol Avenue in reference to a theft. The resident said she had company and that when that company left, $40 was missing from an end table.

A McElroy Street resident reported two prescriptions had been stolen from inside his residence, one for Xanax and the other for Lortab. There was no forced entry and nothing else was reported missing from the residence. 

Friday, Sept. 14

Marcos Aguare Tojin, 30, of 124 Second St. in Winder was arrested and charged with driving without a license after an officer observed him stopped at a traffic light — the light turned green and the vehicle did not move until about a minute later.

A Florida resident visiting family in Winder reported that someone had stolen the front passenger side fog light assembly from his vehicle.

Saturday, Sept. 15

A Bethlehem resident, 31-year-old Miguel Angel Altamirano of 399 Carl Bethlehem Road S.W., was arrested Saturday, Sept. 15, and charged with driving without a license. The driver also had a warrant for contempt of court out of Forsyth County.

An officer stopped a vehicle with dark window tint about 5 p.m. and the driver, Victor Fuentes Ruiz, 20, of 1881 Davenport Road in Braselton, was arrested and charged with driving while unlicensed. He was also issued a citation for window tint violation.

A tag belonging to a red Honda Civic was on a silver Kia Soul when an officer pulled the vehicle over about 8 p.m. The driver, Adrian Leives Garcia-Lopez, 24, of 1557 Beaver Dam Road in Winterville, admitted he didn’t have a driver’s license. The driver was arrested and charged with removing or affixing tags to conceal the ID of a vehicle, driving without a license and driving without a tag.

Sunday, Sept. 16 

An officer responded to the Hillcrest Apartments on Gainesville Highway about 7:30 p.m. in reference to a reported theft. The complainant said she was delivering food items to her daughter, a resident, when her purse was stolen out of her vehicle. The woman said she had left the driver’s side window down and the doors unlocked.
