Recent City Court Case, Surveillance Cameras Lead to Three Arrests for Standing in Roadway

The arrests were made based on a recent case in city court in which the defendant asked that anyone standing in a roadway be arrested just as he had. The judge asked that officers enforce the law and not give any warnings.

Surveillance cameras in the Glenwood area of Winder recently led to the arrest of three residents observed standing the roadway on Capital Avenue and Pine Street. 

On June 9, an officer with the was watching surveillance at the police dispatch center, when he saw two inviduals standing in the intersection. According to an incident report, the officer watched the live footage for about 10 minutes and saw a third person join the duo. The officer got into a patrol car and drove to the location, speaking with all three individuals. 

"All three subjects stated they did not know you couldn’t stand in the road or they wouldn’t have been there," the officer wrote in the report.

The trio — Adrian Demario Burnett, 39, of 236 Graham St., Apt. 6B, in Winder, Eugene Jerome Riden, 29, of 11 Dunahoo Road in Winder and Shumar David Riden, 43, of 271 E. Wright St., Apt. 63 in Winder — was arrested.
