Winder's Firehouse Subs Kicking off Fire Safety Month with Community Event on Saturday

The local business seeks to educate the Barrow community on public safety and raise awareness of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

Barrow County residents are invited to Firehouse Subs in Winder on Saturday for an event ushering in Fire Safety Month.

Stop by the restaurant between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to see demonstrations by Barrow County Emergency Services personnel and to receive fire safety tips. Kids receive a free fire hat.

“We are honored to be celebrating this kickoff with Firehouse Subs,” Lt. Scott Dakin, public information officer for Barrow County Emergency Services, said in a news release announcing the event. “It will be a fun couple of hours where citizens can meet some of the great firefighters and EMT’s that work with Barrow County Emergency Services as well as the great staff at Firehouse Subs.”

In 2005, Firehouse Subs created the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to first-responders. According to a news release, through this nonprofit organization, Firehouse Subs has given $5.2 million to hometown heroes in 33 states and Puerto Rico.

I grew up in a Winder where doors were not locked and the town was full of folks shopping! SometimesRead More a moonshiner would get caught or the parking meter would run out of time and one would get a parking ticket by one of the three cops in town! Now I keep a weapon handy because of voices and footsteps on the pavement at night! Where are these people coming from and going to after one o'clock in the morning? Why does it take so long for a policeman to show up after a call is made,if they show up at all? I've watched nice homes on my street turn into dumps. They are rented by owners who are only interested in the money and not the quality of people who are renting. Yeah, I keep a weapon and it's loaded for a thief or prowler! When seconds count a cop is only several minutes away,if at all!
