The children suffered minor injuries after they got off a bus, WXIA-TV reports. Below, tips on how to protect yourself.

A boxer mix that was running loose through Winder's Casey's Crossing neighborhood attacked and injured three children who were getting off a bus on Tuesday morning, WXIA-TV reports.

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office told the TV station that two 10-year-olds and a 12-year-old suffered superficial injuries and one minor puncture wound on their arms and legs and were treated at the scene.

Wikihow offers this advice for handling a dog attack. Among the steps:

-- Be careful never to aggravate a strange animal.

-- Watch for signs of aggression in the animal, such as approaching at a run and keeping its head level.

-- Remain calm, to avoid showing weakness or appearing aggressive.

-- Be prepared to block any assault with a stick or by thrusting out a leg.

-- Back slowly away and leave when the dog loses interest.

I grew up in a Winder where doors were not locked and the town was full of folks shopping! SometimesRead More a moonshiner would get caught or the parking meter would run out of time and one would get a parking ticket by one of the three cops in town! Now I keep a weapon handy because of voices and footsteps on the pavement at night! Where are these people coming from and going to after one o'clock in the morning? Why does it take so long for a policeman to show up after a call is made,if they show up at all? I've watched nice homes on my street turn into dumps. They are rented by owners who are only interested in the money and not the quality of people who are renting. Yeah, I keep a weapon and it's loaded for a thief or prowler! When seconds count a cop is only several minutes away,if at all!
