Winder Burglary Report Ends Badly when Roommate is Arrested on Outstanding Warrant

The responding officer found no evidence of anyone trying to enter the residence but still made an arrest.

On April 27, 2012, an officer with the responded to a burglary report at a Hamilton Avenue apartment.

The complainant said she had heard someone at the back door trying to force his or her way in.

While inside the apartment, the officer noticed the complainant’s roommate, 31-year-old Ashley Virginia McElroy, standing the front door.

“Due to an unrelated incident from earlier in the shift I knew that Mrs. McElroy had a warrant for her arrest,” the officer wrote in an incident report.

The officer contacted dispatch and confirmed a valid warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of speeding.

McElroy was arrested and transported to the .

While at the apartment, the officer observed no evidence that anyone had attempted to enter the residence but advised the complainant the department would perform extra patrols in the area.
