Walmart Shopper Carrying $456 in Cash Accused of Shoplifting $155 in Merchandise

A Winder resident was arrested Jan. 3 and charged with theft by shoplifting.

A Walmart shopper is accused of attempting to steal about $155 worth of merchandise despite carrying $456 in cash into the store.

On Jan. 3, 2012, a deputy with the was dispatched to the Winder . Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the store’s loss prevention officer, who said he had observed a white male in the electronics department taking three WII controllers out of their packages.

The loss prevention officer said he followed the customer into the shoe department, where the customer attempted to conceal the controllers down the front of his pants before heading to the men’s clothing department, where he placed several clothing items in a plastic bag.

The loss prevention officer said he followed the customer past all points of sale before stopped the man and recovering the WII controllers, a hat, a T-shirt, boys’ socks and a package of underwear, valued at a total of $155.32.

The deputy then placed Gus Steven Jackson Jr. of 74 E. Wright St. in Winder under arrest on a charge of theft by shoplifting. When the suspect was transported to the the staff logged his personal property, which included $456 from his right pants pocket.
