UPDATED: Toddler Killed, Three Seriously Injured in Fire

Another person was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

An early morning fire on Rockwell Church Road resulted in the death of a toddler and serious injuries to several others.

According to Barrow County Emergency Services public information officer Lt. Scott Dakin, several units were dispatched to a structure fire on Rockwell Church Road at approximately 2:17 a.m. on Sept. 18.

"When we arrived on scene, we found the residence was totally involved," Dakin said.

Several residents were already out of the home when firefighters arrived. Three of them -- a 50-year-old male, a 22-year-old female and a 16-year-old female -- were airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital with burn injuries and a fourth was transported by ambulance to the hospital. That individual has since been released.

Dakin said firefighters were advised a fifth individual was still inside the structure, but, due to the intensity of the fire, crews were forced into defensive mode.

After the fire was under control, crews conducted a search and found the body of the 19-month-old female.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, Dakin said.
