Tenant Charged with Burning Down Rental Property

The arrest followed a two-week investigation of the fire, and the suspect reportedly admitted to investigators he was intoxicated at the time and upset over a recent disagreement with the landlord.

A Winder man has been charged with arson after Barrow County Sheriff's Office investigators say he burned down the residence he was renting.

Richard Evan Page, 33, was arrested April 2 following a two-week investigation into a suspicious fire at 315 E. Wright St., Apartment B, in Winder. He has been charged with arson in the first degree and criminal damage to property in the second degree.

Law enforcement say Page intentionally started a fire March 19 that consumed the entire structure and initially told fire officials he did not know how the blaze started. He later confessed to setting the fire during an interview with sheriff’s office investigators, according to a news release. He also reportedly admitted he was intoxicated at the time and upset over a recent disagreement with the landlord.
