A suspect in a reported domestic dispute was located by a canine unit hiding under leaves after fleeing the scene of the incident in Statham on Friday, Nov. 16, 2011.
Officers with the responded to a domestic dispute at 462 McCarty Road, Lot 24-B. Upon arrival, officers found the suspect had fled the scene on foot. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate him. A few hours later, Statham police were called back to the same location and the suspect again fled the residence.
A canine unit was requested and the suspect was tracked to a hiding spot in a shallow depression under some leaves.
According to an incident summary, officers instructed the man to show his hands more than eight times and the canine was released and bit the man on his lower back. The man then complied with instructions to show his hands and was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect, Charles Lee Howard, 28, was taken to the for treatments of his wounds before being booked into the on charges of terroristic threats and acts, entering an automobile or other motor vehicle with the intent to commit crime, theft by taking, cruelty to children in the third degree for a third or subsequent offense, simple battery and probation violation.
