Statham Police Issue Nine Citations, Four on Seat Belt Violations

A recap of recent activity involving the Statham Police Department.

Statham police issues nine citations the week of May 9 through 15.

"We were much busier this past week than the week before," Chief Steve Martin wrote in an e-mail. 

Here's a summary of some of the incidents to which police responded:

  • A burglary was reported May 10 at a residence on Eighth Street in Statham. The resident said someone had entered the home and had gone through the contents the day before. The resident said nothing appeared to be missing.
  • Another burglary was reported May 10 at the Old House Restaurant. The owner reported someone had entered the business and had taken five 10-pound packs of bacon valued at $204, change valued at $10 and one glass jar valued at $1.
  • On May 12, an individual reported that between May 5 and 12 someone had entered his vehicle and had taken an expired Wachovia debit card and two 10-inch Woofers with an amplifier attached valued at $600.   
  • On May 14, a disheveled black male was seen exiting a wooded area near the city water plant. When an officer approached the man, he said he didn’t know his name and date of birth. He was arrested for obstruction and taken to the Barrow County Detention Center, where staff refused to admit him due to him having extremely high blood pressure. The man was transported to Barrow Regional Medical Center for treatment and a mental health evaluation.
