Statham Police Find Man Passed Out Beside Railroad Tracks

A recap of recent activity involving the Statham Police Department.

At approximately 5:55 p.m. Aug. 3, officers were dispatched to assist in response to a report that a person was passed out on the railroad tracks near Craft Road.

CSX Railroad was notified of the situation and advised there was a train in the area that was going too fast to stop. When officers arrived they found a male lying in the grass just off the tracks. Emergency service personnel released the individual without treatment once it was discovered he was highly intoxicated. The individual was transported to his residence and released without charges.

Here are summaries of other incidents to which police responded from Aug. 1 through 6.

  • On Aug. 1, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Eighth Street in response to reports of harassing phone calls. The complainant reported her mother’s ex-boyfriend was continuously calling her mother's phone and said she has made complaints in the past. She was advised to contact the Barrow County Magistrate Court for further assistance.
  • Employees of Church's Chicken reported on Aug. 1 that two black males entered the store and presented two counterfeit $20 bills for payment. The cashier did not realize the bills were counterfeit until after the two subjects had left the store. Police obtained video evidence of the suspects.
  • On Aug. 3, officers were dispatched to a residence on Greenfield Drive regarding a theft. The complainants reported that sometime between July 23 and 27 someone took several rings from the residence. The victim told officers that two friends were house sitting the entire time and those friends said no one else had been at the home while they were house sitting.  
  • On Aug. 4, police responded to a report of theft at an Eighth Street residence. Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant, who said a lawn mower had been stolen from her storage building.
  • Statham officers were contacted Aug. 4 by Gwinnett County Police regarding a possible stolen vehicle located in Statham on Last Street. Investigators contacted the business owner and checked several vehicles. One was discovered to have a stolen computer part on it and Gwinnett Police impounded the vehicle.
  • A Statham officer was on patrol Aug. 4 when he observed a man he knew to be wanted for an active probation violation warrant riding as a passenger in a truck. The officer stopped the truck, spoke with the man and confirmed the warrant.
  • On Aug. 5, Statham police met with a man who was a suspect in a theft. While obtaining a written statement from him, the investigator checked for active warrants and found two. The man was arrested once he finished his statement.
  • A Statham officer was on patrol Aug. 5 when he saw a female subject he knew to be wanted on an active warrant. The
    officer confronted the female subject and arrested her for an active warrant for probation violation.
  • A Statham officer was on patrol Aug. 5 when he observed a male subject walking down Atlanta Highway at Bethlehem Road. The officer noticed that the man appeared to be having trouble walking. The officer stopped to investigate and the man said he had been shot earlier in the night in Jackson County and that he was walking home after being treated at St. Mary's. Barrow County Emergency Services was called to the scene but the man refused any further treatment. The officer then gave the man a ride to his home off Bowman Mill Road.
  • On Aug. 6, officers were dispatched to Waffle House regarding a report of theft from a vehicle. The victim said someone entered her car and took $20 from her wallet. No forced entry or damage was found.
