Statham Police Arrest Suspected Child Predator

This past week, Statham police arrested a suspected child predator.

William Carlton Bennett, 36, of 462 McCarty Road 15-B, Statham, was arrested and charged with child molestation, cruelty to children in the third degree and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Statham police also investigated the shooting death of an elderly city resident. An investigation determined the incident was a suicide.

Chief Steve Martin said in an e-mail that a burglary occurred the morning of Sunday, May 29, at the Piggly Wiggly. A suspect had been identified and warrants had been obtained to make an arrest, however a report had not been completed.

Statham police also arrested Fausto Callejas Zamudio, 47, of 201 Daley Ave., Winder, who was charged with driving while unlicensed or with expired license and failure to maintain lane.
