Statham Police Department to Host Neighborhood Watch Meetings

The Statham Police Department will host a neighborhood watch meeting on Oct. 25 for zones 2 and 4.

A neighborhood watch is a key partnership between residents and authorities devoted to keeping a community safe.

With a police force of less than a dozen officers in the city of Statham, it’s simply not possible for there to be a police presence on every street corner and neighborhood cul-de-sac at any given moment. The Statham Police Department relies on the watchful eyes and astute intuition of its residents to help ward off trouble before it begins.

To this end, the Statham PD holds neighborhood watch meetings once a month for the four individual zones that make up the city. Divided like a pie, Zone 1 represents the northernmost region between Ga. Highway 8 and Ga. Highway 11/211; Zone 2 represents the eastern region between Ga. Highway 11/211 and Ga. Highway 8; Zone 3 represents the western region between Ga. Highway 8 and Ga. Highway 324; and Zone 4 represents the southernmost region between Ga. Highway 324 and Ga. Highway 8.

The next neighborhood watch meeting will address Halloween safety and will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the Walther Hillman Community Building on Park Street for zones 2 and 4.

Future neighborhood watch meetings are scheduled for Nov. 8 and Dec. 13 for zones 1 and 3, and Nov. 29 and Dec. 13 for zones 2 and 4. The November meetings will address emergency preparedness, and the December meetings will tackle identity crime awareness.

Neighborhood watch meetings also address residents' concerns, are always held at either the Hillman Building or City Hall and begin promptly at 7 p.m.

A neighborhood watch does not encourage vigilantism. Members are asked to contact authorities if they suspect possible criminal activity, but never to intervene. In the event you witness suspicious behavior in your neighborhood, call 9-1-1 for emergency assistance. Statham Police officers are dispatched by Barrow County Central Communications. Please call 770-307-3122 for non-emergencies.
