Shoplifter Hides Evidence in Winder Store's Toilet Tank

Personal items and a laser cat toy were among the items found in shoplifter's possession at the CVS in Winder, Ga.

A Winder woman is facing shoplifting charges after unsuccessfully attempting to hide evidence of the crime in a store toilet. Winder Police responded to the call at the on West May Street on July 12.

Officers were met by the CVS store manager and a female customer who were standing at the cashier's counter with various products and their open and wet boxes lying on the counter.

The customer picked up a new tube of Gold Bond Medicated Cream and applied it to her mouth, stating, "This cold sore is killing me," as officers approached. The customer told police she had not yet paid for the item but she would.

The CVS manager told police that the customer had taken multiple items into the women's bathroom, opened them and then placed the empty packages in the toilet tank. Another customer heard the individual in the stall next to her opening packages and alerted store employees, who then removed the boxes from the toilet tank.

Video evidence showed the customer pulling new, unwrapped items totaling $144.65 out of her purse and placing them on the counter. The items included Abreva Tubes, CVS brand cold sore cream, CVS Triple Antibiotic Ointment, Gold Bond Medicated Cream, Kank A Liquid, Mega Red Omega 3 Oil Capsules, a laser cat toy and Orabase Paste.

The customer was arrested and transported to the Barrow County Jail. A citation for shoplifting was issued and the woman was barred from shopping at CVS.
