Sheriff's Office Warning Residents with Incarcerated Family Members of Scam

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a possible scam being perpetrated throughout the state involving detention centers.

According to the sheriff's office, families of inmates are being contacted by someone identifying himself or herself as an employee of the detention center where their family member is housed. These callers are asking family members to transfer money into a PayPal account and the inmate will be released.

This sheriff's office warns that this is a scam. Anyone who receives such a call is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 770-307-3080.
