Sheriff Takes to Facebook, Issuing Statement on Right to Bear Arms

The Facebook post reiterates what Sheriff Smith told Barrow Patch earlier this week about his stance on Second Amendment rights.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith told Barrow Patch earlier this week that he supports residents' right to bear arms. Today, Sheriff Smith issued a statement via the agency's Facebook page

The post reads:

After being asked by several citizens and members of the media Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith has issued a statement regarding his position of the gun control debate going on in our country.

"As the duly elected Sheriff of Barrow County I want the citizens I serve to know and fully understand my position on this matter. I am a strong supporter of our Constitution and of the 2nd Amendment. I consider it an honor and privilege to have been elected by the citizens of Barrow County who I serve every day. When those same citizens elected me and I took office, I placed my hand on the Holy Bible and swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and the State of Georgia. The citizens of Barrow County can be assured that your deputies and I will protect and defend the legal and constitutional rights of the citizens of our county to the fullest.

Lastly, as your Sheriff I will diligently support and uphold the Constitutional rights of the citizens of Barrow County without excuse or apology."

I grew up in a Winder where doors were not locked and the town was full of folks shopping! SometimesRead More a moonshiner would get caught or the parking meter would run out of time and one would get a parking ticket by one of the three cops in town! Now I keep a weapon handy because of voices and footsteps on the pavement at night! Where are these people coming from and going to after one o'clock in the morning? Why does it take so long for a policeman to show up after a call is made,if they show up at all? I've watched nice homes on my street turn into dumps. They are rented by owners who are only interested in the money and not the quality of people who are renting. Yeah, I keep a weapon and it's loaded for a thief or prowler! When seconds count a cop is only several minutes away,if at all!
