Reward Offered to Find Out Who Killed Bonnie the Donkey

Family members say they heard two gunshots in the morning; they found the donkey dead that afternoon.

Ray Garrett told police he paid $250 for Bonnie, the donkey that was shot and killed on his property near Winder last weekend.

He's offering to pay $1,000 to find her killer.

Bonnie was found dead Feb. 16 in the middle of a pasture at 1412 Perkins Road with a bullet wound to the right shoulder area, according to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office incident report.

Family members told the AJC they heard two gun shots Sunday morning and the animal was found dead later that afternoon.

A Barrow deputy responded to the call around 3:45 p.m.

Garrett told the deputy the donkey was last seen alive around 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15.

"Mr. Garrett and I rode on his multi-purpose vehicle approximately 150 yards behind his residence," the deputy wrote in the incident report. "I observed a dead donkey with a bullet wound to the right shoulder area."

The Barrow Journal reported a high-powered rifle was used and that a hunter is suspected.

Garrett told the AJC Bonnie and another donkey named Clyde had been at the farm for eight years and well-known in the community.

The sheriff's office said there are no known witnesses to the crime.

Anyone with information should call the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office at 770-307-3080.
