According to GCPD public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith, an off-duty law enforcement officer from Barrow County (agency unknown at the time of article publication) was driving past the shopping center located at 1152 Auburn Road early Wednesday morning and noticed a man wheeling a small safe across the parking lot in an office chair. The off-duty officer notified Gwinnett Police and several patrol officers as well as a K-9 unit responded to the scene.

Officers searched the area, including some nearby woods, but were unable to locate the man.

In an email to Dacula Patch, Smith indicated that Monkey Joe’s and Little Caesars were the two businesses that were burglarized.

"The suspect tried to break into the safe in both," Smith wrote.

The missing safe was from Monkey Joe's.
