Marijuana Plants Found off Arbonne Road in Winder

The Barrow County Crime Task Force has seized 54 marijuana plants from a wooded area in Winder.

The Barrow County Crime Task Force has seized 54 marijuana plants from a wooded area off Argonne Road in Winder — enough marijuana that, if sold, could have brought in more than $64,000.

The seizure was executed in cooperation with the Governor’s Task Force, the Georgia State Patrol, the Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia National Guard and the Winder Police Department.

Robert Evan Miller, 50, of Winder, was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of manufacturing marijuana.

Five helicopters from the Governor’s Task Force left the Winder Airport at approximately 10 a.m. Thursday, June 23, as part of a coordinated effort to locate marijuana-growing operations in Barrow and surrounding counties. 

One of the aviation units located a marijuana grow from the air, and notified ground units that quickly entered the area and seized the plants.

According to the sheriff’s office, when investigators approached the marijuana plants, they found Miller, who lives on the property where the plants were grown, attempting to destroy them.

The sheriff’s office thanks state and local agencies that assisted in this case and plans to continue its pursuit of those who attempt to grow, distribute, sell or use controlled substances in Barrow County.
