Man Arrested for Cattle Theft Earlier This Year Claims His Cows Were Stolen

The Dacula, Ga. man was extradited to Florida after the allegedly stolen cattle were seized at a Statham farm.

A man arrested in June of 2013 for cattle theft contacted the Barrow County Sheriff's Office on Nov. 21 to file his own theft report.

Jeremy Best was accused of stealing cattle in Florida, transporting them to Georgia and then illegally selling them. Best, however, said it is his business partner who is guilty of a crime.

Best, according to the report, said he and his partners bought cattle together. Best said he and his wife also have cattle which they own in addition to the co-owned cattle. Best said he moved his personal cattle along with some of the co-owned cattle to a Statham farm.

"Mr. Best stated earlier this year [his partner] contacted the authorities in Florida and lied to them stating he had stolen the cattle and moved them," the deputy wrote in the report.

Best explained that when the cattle were seized, his business partner was told to come and retrieve the cattle. When the partner did so, he allegedly took not only the co-owned cattle but also some of Best's cattle.

According to Best, the 10 stolen cows are valued at approximately $20,000.

The case is listed as active.
