Several Winder Drivers Arrested for Traffic Violations

Winder police put the cuffs on at least three people last week for driving without a license, speeding, and messing with their tags.

Drivers without licenses, drivers without seat belts, and drivers with phony license plates were arrested by Winder Police last week.

According to Winder Police reports from Sept. 25:

  • An officer stopped a 1992 red Chevy truck on Griffith Street after noticing the vehicle did not have an operational tag light. The driver told the officer he didn't have a driver's license and said he had been arrested two weeks earlier for driving on a suspended license. The driver was handcuffed, cited for driving on a suspended license and no tag light, and transported to Barrow County Detention Center.
  • An officer on zone patrol of Athens Street and Midland Avenue saw a gold Ford F-150 with a California license plate cross the train tracks with the driver not wearing his seat belt. When the driver was stopped, he told the officer he did not have a driver's license. The driver was handcuffed, cited for seat belt violation and driving while unlicensed, and taken to the Barrow County Detention Center.
  • An officer clocked a 1996 Geo Metro going 70 mph in a 45 mph zone on Highway 53, headed east toward Highway 11. When stopped, the driver told the officer he didn't have his driver's license with him and that he had put his girlfriend's tag on the car because he'd been unable to get a title for the vehicle since buying it in August. The man was handcuffed, taken to Barrow County Jail, cited for speeding and affixing a tag to conceal the ID of a vehicle, and given a warning for the registration and no driver's license on person.
