Leaf Burning Leads to Structure, Grass Fire

Approximately a quarter acre of grass was burned.

An attempt to dispose of some leaves resulted in a Nov. 10 structure and grass fire.

Barrow County firefighters were dispatched to a Hog Mountain Road address early Sunday morning in response to a 911 call reporting a structure fire.

"When firefighters arrived they found a large storage building fully involved in fire," said Barrow County Emergency Services public information officer Lt. Scott Dakin in a released statement.

The heat from the fire had also melted the vinyl siding of the home, he added.

Firefighters had to fight the blaze from outside the structure while protecting the home from further damage. Approximately a quarter acre of grass was burned as well.

The resident, according to Dakin, had been burning leaves the previous night. The leaves were not completely extinguished and the flames rekindled during the night and spread along the grass to the storage building.
