Investigators Make Tenth Arrest in Ongoing Sting to Catch Suspected Online Predators

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office has made its 10th arrest in its ongoing, undercover investigation into suspected online sexual predators.

Investigators arrested 20-year-old Garrett Gregory Fiddyment of Milton on Wednesday, June 22.

According to the sheriff’s office, an undercover investigator assigned from the posed as an underage female and chatted online with the suspect for just one hour before he suggested a meeting. Investigators said Fiddyment, who was in Athens at the time, drove to Barrow County to meet the female with the intent to have sexual relations with her. Instead, task force investigators met him and made the arrest without incident.

Investigators discovered a small amount of marijuana in the suspect’s vehicle after arrest. Fiddyment is charged with one count  of enticing a child for indecent purposes, three counts of violation of the computer pornography child exploitation act and one count of misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

The sheriff’s office encourages parents to monitor their children’s Internet activity, including chat logs, the history of sites visited, social networking sites, etc. Any suspicious activity should be reported to law enforcement.
