House Fire Displaces Family of Five

At midnight Wednesday, communication officers received a 911 call reporting a structure fire in the 300 block of Patrick Mill Road.

A family of five has been displaced after a portion of their home caught fire earlier this week.

At midnight Wednesday, communication officers with Barrow County Emergency Services received a 911 call reporting a structure fire in the 300 block of  Patrick Mill Road. Firefighters arrived to find fire showing from the walls of garage and a room above the garage.

“Firefighters made an aggressive attack and were able to stop the spread of the fire,” Lt. Scott Dakin, spokesman for Barrow County Emergency Services, stated in a news release. “The fire was contained to the garage and room above it, however the home suffered smoke damage throughout.”

The residents were alerted to the fire by smoke alarms and were able to escape with no injuries.

Engines 3 and 4, Ladder 7, Meds 3 and 7 and Battalion 1 responded.

The Fire Investigation Unit responded to the scene to conduct an origin and cause investigation. The cause of the fire is listed as electrical.

“Again we want to remind citizens of the need to have working smoke alarms in their homes,” Dakin said. “They alerted the family and gave them the needed time to escape unharmed.”
