Home on Briscoe Mill Road Completely Destroyed by Fire

Two home fires were reported by Barrow County Emergency Services this week. The cause of one was determined to be a lightning strike, the second is still under investigation.

The first call came in on Wednesday, July 18 at approximately 4:22 p.m. The caller reported a structure fire in the 400 block of Wynbrook Road in Auburn. Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be a lightening strike. Responding to the fire was Engine 4, Ladder Truck 7, Med 4 and Battalion 1. The crews were able to contain the fire to a small area in the wall of the garage.

"Firefighters responded and found a home that had some fire in the walls of a garage. Crews were able to quickly find the fire and extinguish it," stated Lieutenant Scott Dakin in a press release.

The second call this week was received at 2:51 a.m. on Thursday morning, July 19. Engines 3 and 7, Med 3 and 7 and Battalion 1 responded to the fire located at 860 Briscoe Mill Road. The home involved in this fire was completely destroyed and the American Red Cross was present to aid an adult who resided at the home. The exact cause of this fire is currently under investigation.

Lieutenant Dakin commented in a press release, "Upon arrival firefighters found heavy fire showing from the back of the structure. Due to the amount of fire crews had to fight the fire from the outside of the home."
