Home Fire Displaces Family of Six

Just after 11:30 a.m. today, communication officers received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 1014 Mulberry Trail.

A family of six was displaced Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, following a fire that damaged their home on Mulberry Trail.

Just after 11:30 a.m., communications officers with received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 1014 Mulberry Trail. Responding firefighters found smoke throughout a singlewide mobile home with several additions with a small fire in the electrical utility room. 

After conducting a primary search of the structure, a second fire was found in the attic area of an addition.

“The fire vented through the roof a short time after arriving on the scene, which allowed crews to make an aggressive interior attack," Lt. Scott Dakin, public information officer, said in a news release. "During extinguishment operations crews also moved to preserve personal contents. They were able to bring the fire under control and stop its spread after a short time period.”

Engines 5 and 6, Meds 5 and 6, Battalion 1 and Deputy Chief John Skinner responded to the fire.

A 1500-gallon tanker truck from West Jackson Fire Department was requested due to the lack of hydrants on Mulberry Trail. 

The home suffered extensive damage to the roof, attic and electrical utility room as a result of the fire, and a family of two adults and four children were displaced as a result. The American Red Cross responded to assist the family.

“The fire was determined to have originated in two areas of the structure," Chief Fire Investigator Blair Darst said in the news release. "The cause of the fire was an undetermined electrical malfunction within the 1982 singlewide mobile home."
