Hijack Victim Didn't Tell the Whole Truth

A Statham man told Athens-Clarke Police he was robbed of cash and his pickup truck was hijacked on March 9, but he failed to mention one detail.

He told police $130 in cash and his 1994 Nissan pickup truck valued at $3,000 were stolen. The vehicle is described as a black single-cab pickup with Barrow County tags.

According to a police account of the incident, the man said he went to a friend’s house on Cleveland Avenue and then the two drove to a residence on Fowler Mill Road. There, the friend exited the car and another man entered.

The Statham man told police, “the male placed him in a headlock and demanded his money. The suspect removed $130 from his pocket and made him get out of his truck.”

The man drove away in the truck.

The suspect is described as 5-foot-10, 200 pounds with dark hair brown eyes, scaring on the cheeks and a Fu Manchu mustache. He wore a black leather jacket and goes by the name, “Brad.”

Police determined that the Staham’s man story didn’t completely add up:

“During the investigation, it was determined the money was not stolen but [the man] had given it to the first male to buy drugs.”

No more information was available. Athens-Clarke Police will continue to investigate.
